Juliana Kabua

Producer, Kenya, Great Lakes Creative Producer’s Lab & LBx Africa

Juliana Kabua is a Nairobi-based film producer with over a decade of experience in filmmaking. She is an alumna of Creative Producer’s Indaba, Rotterdam Lab, Durban FilmMart, and Ouaga Film Lab. Her work spans both documentary and fiction and is currently developing two feature fiction films and a feature documentary. Her previous films have premiered at international festivals including the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), FESPACO, Chicago International Film Festival, Lucas Film Festival, HollyShorts, and the Montreal International Black Film Festival (MIBFF). Her acclaimed short film Stero recently won Best Short Narrative at FAME Week in Cape Town & Best Picture in the International competition of Marrakech Short Film Festival. Juliana was part of the production team for the critically acclaimed feature Supa Modo (2018), a widely celebrated Kenyan film, now streaming on Netflix. She has also produced TV commercials, infomercials, online series, short documentaries, and live events for leading brands across Kenya and Africa.Passionate about creating avenues for creatives to grow, Juliana is a co-founder of the Great Lakes Creative Producers Lab, a capacity building initiative for producers in East Africa, established in 2021.

Zoe Ramushu

Producer, Zambia, STEPS & Chiriseri Studios

Zoe Ramushu is producer with a legal background. She shot two New York based documentaries ‘It Takes a Circus’, was nominated for the 48th Student Academy Awards (Student Oscars) and screened at Doc NYC and ‘To The Plate’ which she produced was shortlisted for a Student BAFTA and funded by the Pulitzer Centre. Ramushu returned to South Africa and is producing a slate of nine feature films, the first is complete and trended on Netflix’s top 10 in South Africa. She is currently producing the documentary collection, Generation Africa 2.0 focused on Climate Change, for STEPS alongside Don Edkins. She studied Law, African Literature & Journalism and holds an MA and MSc from Wits University and Columbia University in the City of New York respectively. As a fellow of the Cannes Producers Network, DFM, The Gotham (formerly IFP), Creative Producer’s Indaba and Berlinale’s EFM Startups she has enjoyed success at various markets. A 2021 Reuters Institute Fellow at Oxford University she also chairs a committee for the Dept. of Arts & Culture in South Africa.

Akuol De Mabior

Akuol De Mabior is an articulate and thoughtful storyteller with over 7 years of experience crafting award-winning documentaries across Africa. She is skilled at leading interviews in high-pressure environments, distilling complex narratives for global audiences, and collaborating across languages and cultures. Furthermore she is comfortable both behind and in front of the camera, with appearances on BBC, DW, France 24, Arte and Al Jazeera and a deep knowledge of African perspectives in global affairs.

Babucarr Manka is a prominent Gambian documentary filmmaker, and journalism student, celebrated for his emotionally driven and socially conscious storytelling. With over 15 years in the film and media industry, Manka has created award-winning films and documentaries that address critical issues such as migration, identity, human rights, and social justice. He is widely respected both in The Gambia and internationally for his contribution to African cinema and his leadership in audiovisual storytelling.

Hind Bensari

Filmmaker, Morocco, 2M

Hind Bonsai is born in Casablanca in 1987 and raised in the UK. She is a self-taught filmmaker known for combining visual storytelling with powerful social impact. Her short 475: Break the Silence (2013) aired on global broadcasters and helped repeal a controversial Moroccan law. Her debut feature, We Could Be Heroes (2018), won Best Documentary at Hot Docs - the first African filmmaker to do so - and the Grand Prize at the Tangier National Film Festival. The film contributed to legislative change around disability rights. In 2021, her campaign film CharactHER, commissioned by Creative Europe, premiered at Cannes and was distributed across the EU to combat gender disparity in film. She currently teaches at ESAV Marrakech.
